STRAUSS
Johann Strauß
This name is also firmly connected with Vienna, and twice, because the composer Johann Strauss exists both as a father and as a son. Already the father was celebrated as a waltz king, but his most famous piece was a march, namely the Radetzky March. Johann Strauss’ son, however, was the real waltz king. We have him to thank for the world-famous Danube Waltz, the Tales from the Vienna Woods, the Emperor Waltz and the Viennese Blood Waltz. Thus, the name Strauss is firmly linked with the concept of the waltz, because the brothers of Johann Strauss son, Eduard and Josef were also known beyond the borders of Vienna as waltz composers.
